Tom Brady announces his return to the NFL via Twitter after a 40-day retirement.

Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady announces he will be returning to the NFL after a 40-day retirement.

The announcement comes a little more than a month after drama around his rumored retirement unfolded, culminating in an official retirement announcement by the 44 year-old quarterback. This shocked many NFL insiders who had previously rushed to announce his retirement before Brady could.

Brady made the announcement on his Twitter at 4:13pm on Sunday, March 13, a day before NFL free-agency began. “These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business LFG”.

Fans speculate that Brady’s “unfinished business” is likely another Super Bowl run with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but time will tell if the five-time NFL MVP will be able to win his second Super Bowl with the team.
