Tom Brady announces his retirement from the NFL after 22 seasons and 7 Super Bowl wins.

Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady has announced his retirement after 22 seasons.

Tom Brady is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback of all time. He played college football for Michigan and was drafted as the 199th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, with whom he made nine and won six Super Bowls with, earning him the reputation as the draft’s biggest steal.

After a lackluster 2019-2020 season with New England, Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, going on to win Super Bowl LV with them in 2021. During the celebration following the game, Brady announced that he would be returning for another season.

Brady and the Buccaneers once again made the 2021-2022 playoffs, but lost in the Divisional (second) Round to the Los Angeles Rams in the final seconds of the game.

Fans began speculating if the 44 year-old quarterback would call it quits after his 27-30 loss in the playoffs. NFL insider Adam Schefter broke the news the next Saturday, Jan 29, that Brady would be announcing his retirement. The report spread like wildfire across the internet, before Brady’s agent claimed that he had not made up his mind.

On the following Tuesday, Feb 1, Brady officially announced his retirement on his Instagram, thanking his fans and teammates for a “thrilling ride” and that his future is “a work-in-progress”. While Brady may be stepping away from playing football, it is unlikely that he will be fully leaving the sports world.

The player who holds most NFL quarterback records will be eligible to enter the NFL Hall of Fame as early as 2027. Brady’s retirement from playing the game of football will have a lasting impact on the sport, but with his various companies and future endeavors, it is likely that Brady will continue to make an impact on the NFL and the sport of football for many years to come.

“I know for sure I want to spend a lot of time giving to others and trying to enrich other people’s lives, just as so many have done for me.”
